How to Whiten Your Teeth
To begin, put a small amount of whitening gel into each tray. Place the trays in your mouth over your teeth and wipe off any excess gel from your gums. Once the appropriate amount of time has passed, remove the trays and rinse.
How Long to Leave Your Trays In
The timing for your at-home whitening treatments will depend on the strength of your whitening solution. If it’s your first time whitening at-home, leave the gel in for 1 hour (no matter the strength) to test for sensitivity. After the first session, follow these guidelines:
- Opalescence 10%: 4-6 hours or overnight
- Opalescence 15%: 2-4 hours
- Opalescence 20%: 1-2 hours
- Opalescence 35%: 30 minutes
Whitening Treatment Frequency
Initially, it’s best to use your at-home system every day for about one week until you reach your ideal shade. At this point, you can wait 6 months before touching up your results. For touch-ups, you can use the system every day for 1-3 days.
Managing Sensitivity
Teeth whitening can cause some sensitivity. To manage it, apply Sensodyne using your whitening trays for 15 minutes after each whitening session. If you have unmanageable sensitivity, make sure to contact us.
Caring For Your Whitening Trays
To get the most out of your whitening trays, make sure to clean them with soap and the included toothbrush. Don’t use any other products or toothpaste since this can damage the material. Before storing them in their case, make sure they’re completely dry to prevent the growth of bacteria.
